The Normal Heart – Audition
We are looking for actors from across Australia to submit for the role of Dr Emma Brookner, one of the critical roles in THE NORMAL HEART. The actors who played this role in the last major revivals won Tony and Olivier Awards for their performances.
State Theatre Company South Australia’s production of THE NORMAL HEART by Larry Kramer will be directed by Dean Bryant at the Dunstan Playhouse, 30 Sep – 15 Oct 2022.
DR EMMA BROOKNER
- Early 30s – late 50s
- A pioneering doctor at the beginning of the AIDS crisis. Passionate and intelligent, intensely caring and committed to getting to the root of this burgeoning epidemic, Emma does not suffer fools.
- Polio as a child has her use a wheelchair regularly.
- We are looking for female-identifying performers with lived experience of disability.

Please submit a self-tape of the scene which can be downloaded here.
Your video should be provided in the form of a landscape mp4 video uploaded to a file sharing platform where the file can be downloaded (Dropbox, Google Drive or Vimeo preferred).
Please email a link to your self-tape, along with your CV, photo and a brief explanation about how you fit the brief and your interest in the character to auditions@statetheatrecompany.com.au with “The Normal Heart – Emma Brookner Audition” in the subject line.
