Teacher Workshop Booking Form
Teacher workshops on a range of topics are offered by State Theatre Company South Australia every year.
You can gain professional development hours by attending workshops. In 2022 we will schedule the following workshops:
-
Antje Guenther
Thursday 24 February 2022
10.30am-2.30pm
$130In the PD workshop, we’ll take a closer look at Epic Theatre & Brecht’s approach to theatre making and rehearsal from an actor’s perspective. Taking Brecht’s idea of the rehearsal room as a laboratory, we’ll explore key elements of Epic Theatre through simple exercises that teachers can replicate and expand upon with their students. We’ll look at: the Trinity of Performer/Storyteller/Character; ‘Verfremdung’; The Art of Observation; Social Gestus; Fable and ‘erzählendes Arrangement’; Not… But… We’ll work with some of Brecht’s texts as well as improvise scenarios, and teachers will also receive a list of resources for further study/exploration.
The workshop is also a great chance for them to explore these ideas/concepts in their own body, which will give them a better understanding and ability to teach them to their students — teaching from personal experience rather than just theory.

Ellen Steele
Tuesday 15 March 2022
10.30am-2.30pm
Lion Arts Studio, North Terrace, Adelaide
$130This workshop is designed to supply participants with a toolkit of methods for creating content, abstract thinking and development of original devised work.
When we develop our own work, we must begin by recognising our audience, deciding what we want to say to them and creating content that serves our artistic vision.
This can be achieved through a range of methods which we’ll discuss throughout the workshop.
For the practical component we will focus on three techniques – subverting classic texts, physical interpretation and object endowment.
-
Ashton Malcolm
Monday 21 March 2022
10.30am-1.30pm
Lion Arts Studio, North Terrace, Adelaide
$110This session will cover:
– methods for collaboratively and inclusively deciding on a theme for a new devised work.
– physical theatre and group building warm ups that prepare students for physical theatre devising work. These warm ups will be based on the work of Augusto Boal and Frantic Assembly.
– how to use simple gestures and physical tasks to create choreography and layered scenes. This will be based on the work of Complicite and Restless Dance.
