CONNECT

Theatre Republic and State Theatre Company South Australia are embarking on a two-year collaborative project called CONNECT, and we’d love you to get involved.

CONNECT is designed to bring the SA theatre community together, support playwrights and theatre-makers, and help develop new and ongoing work.

There will be a number of different strands, because different people make different work in different ways:
• Scratch Nights: for teams of theatre-makers to test 10 minutes of material from a work in progress, in front of a public audience.
• Play Library: to create a reference library of South Australian plays, accessible to the theatre community, students and general public, held at the Theatre Republic office just off Rundle Mall. This is intended as a rich record of South Australian theatre texts.
• Readings: of plays selected from the Play Library in front of a public audience.
• Commissions: one per year, of a tourable, hour-long play, drawing on the works and connections made through all of the above strands.

Independent of, but complementary to CONNECT, Theatre Republic will be using its new Seed Fund to support one or two playwrights per year to work on early stage ideas, including mini-residencies.

CONNECT will officially launch in late May 2026, with the first of the Scratch Nights being presented in the State Theatre Company South Australia Rehearsal Room.
